The main pillar of sustainable development is the projects, analyzes and syntheses carried out by universities in the name of sustainable regional development within the framework of common mind, interaction and cooperation. For this reason, the effect they create is not only limited to their own regions, but also spreads rapidly to nearby geographical regions. Universities have a mission to be a university with global norms by following the developments in the world and to focus on regional problems in cooperation with the region.

Trakya (Thrace) Universities Union, which was established in 2012 with the aim of making academic and administrative cooperation between universities located in the Southern Marmara and Thrace regions in order to contribute to education-training, research-development and regional development and to advance public-university-industry cooperation and university-city integration, continues its existence with 5 reputable universities in the region. Within the scope of the Union, whose main mission is to contribute to the development of the country from the regional development and to support the region where the academic community is located in various aspects, joint master's, doctorate and distance education protocols are established between member universities, joint use studies are carried out with research laboratories, and various steps are taken every year for the realization of other social, cultural and sports activities. The main purpose of the Trakya Universities Union is to make academic and administrative cooperation between universities in Thrace and Southern Marmara region in order to contribute to education, research and development and regional development, and to advance public-university-industry cooperation and university-city integration. In addition, Trakya Universities Union has undertaken the mission of being a pioneer in the establishment of joint master's, doctorate, distance education protocols among member universities, the joint use of research laboratories and other social, cultural and sports activities.

Today, universities are among the most important actors of regional development and national development, which are among the locomotive powers of regional development, not only with their education and research activities, but also with their innovation capacities, studies that analyze regions and their scientific, artistic and cultural contributions to the cities they are located in.

As Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, we invite you to participate in the 5th International Symposium on the Role of Universities in Regional Development, which will be held in Çanakkale, Turkey on 12-13 May 2022, on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Trakya Universities Union.

The work of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Private Sector, Public Sector and Entrepreneurs will take place in the 5th International Symposium on the Role of Universities in Regional Development, which will be held under the term presidency of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Trakya Universities Union, between 12-13 May 2022.

All abstracts sent to the symposium will go through the referee processes and will be accepted as oral presentations in line with the referee's evaluations. All of the papers presented at the symposium will be published in the abstract booklet. In addition, for the full-text papers sent to the symposium, the authors have the option to have their works published in the proceedings book with ISBN number or as an article.

The symposium languages are English and Turkish. Submissions and presentations can be made in both languages.
